Welcome to the BiteBloom growing library. These guides are here to help you understand the different needs of carnivorous plants, from sunny bog plants to tropical pitcher plants. Start with the plant group you grow, and use the seasonal notes as a guide rather than a substitute for observing your own conditions.
A note from our growing experience: For Venus flytraps and Sarracenia, we have found that 100% long-fibered sphagnum moss (LFSM) can be very beneficial. It costs more than some alternatives, but we feel the benefits can make the extra expense worthwhile. It is our preferred approach, not a requirement for every grower.

- Venus Flytraps — bright light, mineral-free water, and a true winter dormancy.
- Sundews — care varies by species, with many beginner-friendly types enjoying bright light and consistently moist media.
- Temperate Pitcher Plants — outdoor sun, wet acidic media, and winter dormancy for hardy Sarracenia.
- Pinguicula (Butterworts) — care depends on whether the species is tropical or temperate.
- Tropical Pitcher Plants (Nepenthes) — warm or cool-growing conditions, airy media, and appropriate humidity.
